After months of closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic, schools in Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka opened on Friday for 8-10th standard students.
A fair number of students attended the first day’s physical classes, said sources in the Education Department. Some schools reported over 60 per cent attendance.

Karnataka logged 1,003 fresh COVID-19 cases and 18 deaths on Friday, taking the total number of infections to 29,66,194 and the toll to 37,573.

The Karnataka assembly on Friday passed the ''Identification of Prisoners (Karnataka Amendment) Bill,'' which seeks to include collection of blood, DNA, voice and iris scan samples as "measurements" of offenders for effective surveillance and prevention of breach of peace and crime.

Karnataka Energy Minister V Sunil Kumar on Thursday said there was no proposal before the government to privatise the energy sector in the state.

The Karnataka government has shown keen interest on mega textile parks in the state, Secretary in the Textiles ministry U P Singh said on Friday.
"Karnataka is keen on a mega textile park in the state. We have not yet taken any decision on any of the proposals because the project is still in its infancy," Singh told reporters.

A day after 24 new ministers were administered the oath of office in Gujarat, there has been no visible protest by members of the previous Vijay Rupani-led cabinet.
None of the ministers in the earlier government found place in the ministry of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel who replaced Rupani two days ago.

Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has said that his ministry is in talks with a foreign company to construct an electric highway from Delhi to Jaipur.
While reviewing the progress of Delhi-Mumbai Expressway (DME) at Dausa, in Rajasthan, Gadkari said like electric railway engines, buses and trucks will also be powered by electricity.
