    Taking a leap at the approval of the extension of Karnataka former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa’s land de-notification case by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi on Saturday said that Lokayukta is an independent body and can take prompt decisions without being intervened.

    The government today extended by 5 days till August 25 the last date for filing returns and payment of taxes under the GST regime after the GSTN portal faced technical issues because of a huge rush. Earlier, the cut-off for filing maiden GST returns for July was scheduled to end tomorrow, which explained the heavy traffic at 'www.gst.gov.in'.

    Several persons were injured as at least six coaches of the Puri-Haridwar Utkal Express derailed in Khatauli near here this evening, officials said. ADG (Meerut Zone) Prashant Kumar said the number of injured persons was yet to be ascertained. However, eyeswitnessed said at least 20 people were wounded.

     The toll in Bihar floods rose to 153 on Friday while the number of those marooned in 17 districts of the state crossed the one-crore mark. Araria district accounted for 30 deaths, West Champaran 23, Sitamarhi 13, Madhubani 8 and Katihar 7. At least 11 each have died in Kisanganj, East Champaran and Supual and 9 each in Purnea and Madhepura.
