The income tax department today said its field offices will remain open till midnight tomorrow to facilitate very senior citizens and those with income below Rs 5 lakh to file tax returns for 2016-17.
The last date for filing of Income Tax Returns (ITRs) was extended from July 31 to August 5 in view of difficulties faced by taxpayers.

Maharashtra reported 855 cases of farmer suicides during the January-April period of this year against 1,023 cases in the year-ago period, Parliament was informed on Friday.
"The answer to unfortunate instances of farmers' suicides lies in improving their welfare," Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh said in the Rajya Sabha.

Pakistan's new Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi today unveiled his Cabinet with Khawaja Asif appointed as the country's first full-time foreign minister since 2013.
President Mamnoon Hussain administered the oath to 28 federal ministers and 18 state ministers at a ceremony at the President House in Islamabad, Dawn newspaper reported.
