The Law Ministry has been allocated Rs 1,525 crore in the Union Budget 2022-23 to provide funds to Election Commission for purchase of new electronic voting machines and destruction of obsolete voting machines.

Belying expectations, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman did not tinker with the personal income tax rates in the Budget for 2022-23.
The minister also did not raise standard deduction, which was widely anticipated in view of elevated inflation levels and impact of the pandemic on the middle class.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday proposed to set up a digital university to provide education that will be built on a hub and spoke model.
