Karwar (DHNS): Demanding facilities for construction workers who are registered with the State Construction Workers’ Welfare Board, members of Karnataka State Building and Construction Workers Federation district unit staged a protest in front of deputy commissioner’s office here on Wednesday.
“The board collected Rs 5,650 crore so far, but only Rs 177 crore has been spent in last 11 years. Labour Department has staff shortage and registration of workers is very slow,”association district unit president Shantharam Nayak said, adding that a massive protest would be staged in Bengaluru on September 14 if the demands are not fulfilled.
Tilak Gowda lamented that welfare measures announced for construction workers are not yet implemented. Yamuna Gaonkar, Meena Gowda, Nagappa Naik and others took part in the protest. Earlier, a rally was taken out from Mitra Samaj.
A memorandum was submitted to Additional Deputy Commissioner H Prasanna, who assured to call a meeting with 15 days, to solve the problems at the district-level.
