Karwar: The much needed CT scan unit in the district hospital here at Karwar will be inaugurated today on September 24 at 4 PM by the District In-charge Minister R V Deshpande.

This is the first scanning unit in the government hospitals in the district and will be beneficial for the poor.

Earlier, poor patients
had no option but to get scanning done in private institutions at an unaffordable cost. So, many patients preferred going to Mangaluru and Goa.

The scanning unit will be maintained by Krishna Diagnostics Centre of Pune. The same institution will also conduct the tests.

“The unit in Karwar will begin functioning two to three days after installation”, said a staff member.

The scanning machine has been purchased at a cost of Rs six crore and a tender for this had been invited at the State-level.
