Dakshina Kannada district tops Karnataka in quality education

Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada, known for its literacy rate and also for banking sector, has carved a niche in the education sector. In spite of the presence of several famous Pre-university (PU) colleges elsewhere in the state, the educational institutions in Dakshina Kannada (DK) have been attracting scores of students every year. 

Students not only from outside the district, but also from outside the state and country pursue their PUC education in the district. DK has the distinction of being the hub for various professional, UG and PG courses as well. 

Be it II PUC, CET, COMEDK results, the students from the district always have an upper hand through their excellent results. The educational institutions in the district have been nurturing the talents by supporting them throughout. In addition, Dakshina Kannada Pre-University Colleges Principals’ Association too has been lend support through its various initiatives for the progress of the students. 

The association has been striving to conduct all exams as per the timetable, curricular and extracurricular activities on the directions of the PU department, workshops for the lecturers to improve the quality of teaching, administrative training for the principals. It has also been facilitating retired principals and other staff along with the toppers in PU exams and sports at the state and national level.

The association has developed a software exclusively for the announcement of the I PUC results using SuVidya, an online application for processing and managing result of I PUC examinations. The links for the results are provided through www.dkpucpa.com and results can be obtained using the registration number and date of birth of the student. 

There are several PU colleges that have been serving the student community by imparting education for the last several decades and some even date back to century. 

St Agnes PU College is run by the Apostolic Carmel Educational Society. Historically, it is the first Catholic women’s college established in South India and second in the country. The history of  St Ann’s as an educational institution dates back to 1859. It started PU courses in the three disciplines - Science, Commerce and Arts in 1997. From 183 students in 2012, Vikaas PU College in Mangaluru has grown in leaps and bounds with exponential increase in the number of students over the years.

The college aims at the transformation of its students academically accomplished, emotionally balanced, ecologically sensitive and socially responsible persons to empower them to effectively engage in society building. St Philomena Pre University College in Puttur which was bifurcated  into St Philomena Composite College, came into existence in 2001. The institution was started by visionary Rev Msgr Antony Patrao in 1958 and has been imparting quality and liberal education to boys and girls with discipline and academic excellence.
