Mangaluru: A gang of miscreants stabbed a rowdy-sheeter to death in front of his wife and child around 1PM on 19th August, Friday near Vamanjoor in Mangaluru.
The deceased has been identified as Charan (33). He was stabbed to death when he was travelling in an auto rickshaw along with his wife and child. Charan was just released from the jail some time ago. He was going to the hospital to visit his ailing mother when a group of miscreants came in a four-wheeler and stopped the auto rickshaw near petrol bunk. Four persons from a car equipped with deadly weapons alighted and pulled Charan out of the auto rickshaw and attacked him. The miscreants then fled away from the spot.
Charan, ruthlessly injured, was immediately rushed to private hospital where he breathed his last. The rickshaw driver has identified local rowdies Imran, Saifuddin and Rizwan were the assailants.
It is said that Charan was detained at Kovoor police station. The Sangh Parivar has alleged that Sub-inspector Umesh Kumar has tortured him too much. SI Umesh was suspended for some time. Even former C M Yedyurappa was known to have shown interest in this case and had reached Kovoor to look into the matter.
The reason behind the assault is suspected as clashes between the gangs, police commissioner Chandra Shekhar said.
In this regard, a case has been registered in Mangaluru rural police station, investigations are on and further details are awaited.
