Dist fishermen to get 50 deep sea fishing boats: Poojari

Karwar: District In-Charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojari said of the 100 deep-sea fishing boats that the fishermen from the coastal district of the State are supposed to receive, 50 will be reserved for the fishermen of Uttara Kannada district.

Speaking to media persons after performing Bhoomi pooja for the PWD Guest House, office buildings and Maladevi Grounds Development works here on Friday, he said Uttara Kannada district has the highest number of fishermen and fishing is taken up in large scale.

“If we increase basic facilities to fishermen, then we can increase employment opportunities for the youth,” he said and added that he would hold meeting with fisheries minister within a month to discuss various aspects of development works for the fishermen community.

He said he would request the chief minister to award Rs two lakh each to the girl students of SC/ST hostel, who recently scaled the Himalayan mountains, and cycled back to Karwar from Srinagar. Later, they using Kayaking boats rowed to Mangaluru via sea.

“The government wish to encourage these brave girls,” he said.

He said Rs nine crore has been sanctioned for ensuring electricity supply for 9,500 houses in the district.

Instructions has been issued to officials make sure powerline are drawn to each house, without worrying about the total electric poles to be erected.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA Roopali Naik said the guest house is being constructed keeping in mind the climatic condition of the City.

MLC S V Sankanoor, CMC President Dr Nithin Pikale, Ganapathi Ulavekar, Prakash Naik, Premanand Gunag and others were present.
