Karwar: "Officials should make sure the toilets built under Swacch Bharat Mission are proper maintained and used as mere construction of toilets would not be sufficient," said MP Ananth Kumar Hegde at the District-level Development Co-ordination and Supervision committee meeting, held at the deputy commissioner’s office on Friday.
Around 22,000 members of Gouli community are residing in forest areas in Haliyal, Mundgod and Yellapur taluks. Only one among 1000 members of the community are using toilets and most of them have lack of place to construct toilets. Therefore, officials should submit a proposal to the government and asked the officials to create awareness in this regard.
Under NRLM scheme, more training programmes should be conducted in fishing vormicompost production and horticulture. Seed fund should be provided to SHGs, and they should be encouraged to develop their skills for taking up various activities, he said.
Under Mahatma Gandhi National rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), 1.54 lakh jobs cards have been issued in the district, while 83 percent of them are linked with Aadhar numbers, Mr Hegde said.
Some roads developed under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana are damaged within in 3 years, and the contractor should repair them, as they have five years of maintenance period, Mr Hegde said.
Under Indira Avas Yojana this year, approval was given for the construction of 1790 houses and 1009 houses are under construction. There is a complaint about not selecting eligible beneficiaries at some places. List of beneficiaries finalized in Gram Sabhas should not be changed, he said.
Deputy commissioner SS Nakul, Zilla Panchayat President Jayashree Mogere and other officials were present in the meeting.
