Dubai: In a major advancement for healthcare education and innovation, Gulf Medical University (GMU), Ajman, inaugurated the cutting-edge Thumbay Lab for AI in Healthcare under its Thumbay College of Management and AI in Healthcare. The launch event, held at the University’s Library Main Foyer, was attended by dignitaries, faculty, industry partners, and students.
The ceremony was presided over by Dr. Thumbay Moideen, Founder President of Thumbay Group, and graced by H.E. Shri. Sunjay Sudhir, Ambassador of India to the UAE, who was the Chief Guest.
The new lab is set to serve as a vital hub for learning, research, and innovation in the field of artificial intelligence in healthcare. It will bolster GMU’s existing AI programs by providing access to advanced technologies and tools, enabling students, faculty, and healthcare professionals to explore real-world AI applications in diagnostics, clinical decision-making, healthcare operations, and patient care.
The Thumbay Lab complements the university's expanding academic offerings, which include the Master in Artificial Intelligence and Health Informatics (MAIHI), a Certificate Course in Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare, and a Certificate Course in Generative AI (GenAI) in Healthcare. These programs are already open for admissions and aim to prepare professionals to lead in AI-integrated healthcare environments.
Commenting on the occasion, Dr. Thumbay Moideen said, “This lab reflects our commitment to integrating artificial intelligence into every aspect of medical education and healthcare delivery. It will serve as a catalyst for innovation, supporting students and researchers as they develop solutions that shape the future of healthcare.”
Prof. Manda Venkatramana, Acting Chancellor of Gulf Medical University and Vice Chancellor – Academics, added, “This lab will significantly enrich the academic experience of our students by giving them hands-on exposure to emerging technologies. It also opens new avenues for collaborative research, innovation, and real-world problem solving in healthcare.”
The Thumbay College of Management and AI in Healthcare is also working closely with over 15 leading industry partners, including health-tech companies, AI innovators, and academic collaborators, to ensure real-time learning and the development of industry-relevant projects.
