Rally marks Milad Un Nabi celebrations in Bhatkal

Bhatkal: Hundreds of people took part in the procession in Bhatkal on Tuesday to mark the celebrations of Eid Milad Un-Nabi.

Celebrated on the 12th day of Rabi-ul-Awwal, the third month of the Islamic calendar,  Milad commemorates the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him).

The Procession began from the Eidgah and passed through the Bunder Road, Shamshuddin Circle, the Main Road, the Old bus stand, Sultan Street, Chowk Bazaar, Mohammed Ali Road, Main Bazar Road, Marikatta, before culminating near Darga at the local public square.

Many people joined it along the way at various points. Several students held banners and flags and placards praising Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him) while some came in decorated vehicles. Huge crowd including ladies had gathered to witness the procession.

Milad is celebrated by some Muslim groups who mark it as the day prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him) was born.

Elaborate security arrangements had been made and restrictions were imposed on vehicular movement. There was no any untoward incident or any hindrance.

It shall be noted that parts of Coastal Karnataka including Bhatkal, Shirur, Kundapur, Udupi and Mangaluru observed Milad Un Nabi today, whereas the other areas will be celebrating it on Wednesday.
