Bhatkal: Due to electric power outage for about 10-hour long from Sunday 8PM to Monday 10AM, the life of people in Bhatkal witnessed tough situation due to heated temperature and annoying mosquitoes. A situation also aroused where a holiday was given for nursery and primary students due to no water supply in the school washrooms.

Immediately after the power cut, the Hescom department informed local media through WhatsApp message that due to puncture of 110kv insulator at Anantwadi in Honnavar, there is a power failure in Bhatkal region. It was also informed that power may restore by midnight at around 1AM. But unfortunately, in a second message sent by HESCOM, it was informed that restoring of electricity will be possible only after 9AM on Monday. However, the power was then back to the town by 10AM.

Due to the power shutdown in the night, the people in the taluk had to spend a sleepless night with heated temperature. The irritating sounds of mosquitoes on other side made it more tougher for one's trying hard to sleep. Taking into the account about all the tough situations, few private schools in the town declared holiday for nursery and primary students.

Due to continues power failure in the town these days, the invertors are being installed in big mansions, which won't make any difference for them even during the hours of power failure. But the life of poors and middle class people is highly affected. To overcome from mosquitoes, no kind measures have been taken by town municipality as well as panchayats. 

The citizens of Bhatkal are now urging the concerned department to make efforts to restore the power as early as possible if in future it fails in the night hours. They also urged that HESCOM should not wait till morning  to repaired the things. They asked municipality and panchayats to take measures to prevent mosquitoes in the vicinity of the residential areas.
