Karwar: Uttara Kannada District In-charge Secretary Pradeep Singh Kharola expressed his displeasure over incompletion of drinking water works and non-utilization of funds that were kept to spend for drought-affected areas.

Kharola addressed a meeting of various departments at the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Friday. The in-charge secretary instructed that the works be completed in 45 days. He also asked Deputy Commissioner Ujjwal Kumar Ghosh to see that the funds were utilized properly and the works were completed within the deadline.

As monsoon is expected to start soon, Kharola asked the district administration to identify areas that are prone to flood and initiate precautionary measures. Responding to this, the deputy commissioner said that five villages, which are prone to flood, have already been identified and all precautionary measures are being taken.

The in-charge secretary also asked the officials of the Food and Civil Supplies Department to prevent misuse of ration cards. Ineligible cards should be cancelled right away, he instructed.
