Fake death certificate: Accused sent to police custody

Bhatkal: The local court in Bhatkal has handed over the accused in the fake death certificate row to police custody for further investigation.

The local police here brought the accused H V Harshvardhan from Mysuru, who had allegedly got a fake death certificate to claim lakhs of rupees of insurance money.

A body warrant was issued against the accused who is lodged at Mysuru Jail. The police had sought 10-day custody, and awarding the police, the judge handed over the accused to police custody for seven days.

The investigating officer has been asked to produce the accused before the court on February 5. In the meantime, the bail application by the accused has been rejected.

Incident

It may be mentioned here that a woman, Meenakshi B H, submitted an application at the Bhatkal Jali town panchayat seeking the death certificate of her son H V Harshvardhan.

Later, it had come to the notice that a fake death certificate was created to claim lakhs of rupees of insurance amount. The town panchayat filed a complaint with the local police here asking to investigate the issue.
