Bhatkal: A farmer lost his life after he fell off a betelnut tree on Saturday night here in Bhatkal. 

The deceased is identified as Rama Thampa Gonda (38), a resident of Marukeri here.

It is said that the deceased had climbed the betelnut tree in Mahabaleshwar Gonda's farm, to pluck few flowers which is commonly used in offering 'Pooja' ceremonies. The tree being unable to bear the weight impact of Rama, lost its strength and broke causing severe injuries to him. 

He was immediately rushed to Bhatkal govt hospital for first aid treatment, and was then boarded to Kundapur hospital for advanced treatment. Unfortunately, Rama breathed his life on the way.

A case has been registered in Bhatkal rural police station.
