Bhatkal : A fishing boat sank near Netrani Island off Bhatkal coast on Wednesday morning. Fortunately, all the 25 fishermen of the boat were rescued in a heroic attempt by other fishing boats and Indian Coast Guard (ICG).
The owner of the boat ‘Amma’, Nagesh S Naik said that the boat left for fishing from Honnavar port on Tuesday night. Twentyfive fishermen from Honnavar, Bhatkal and other region were on board the boat. The boat got ruptured because of heavy water lashing against it.
Water started gushing inside the boat and the crew members tried their level best to prevent the water from entering the boat. But all their efforts went down the drain.
Finally, the other fishing boats nearby namely Silverfish, Fish India, Siddi Vinayak and Aysha along with the Indian Coast Guard helped them from the sinking boat. All the fishermen are safe.
It is said that the fishing net and some valuables were retrieved from the sinking boat.
According to sources, the cost of the boat was estimated about more than 60-70 lakh. A case has been registered at the Honnavar police station.
