UDUPI: Karkala rural police raided a spot near Arbi Falls in Nitte village on Thursday and arrested five persons for slaughtering a cow.

The arrested have been identified as Somanath (33), Shankar (38) and Prashant (28) all from Nitte, Prasanna (21) from Parappady Cross and Muhammed Ashraf (38) from  Borgalgudde. Another accused, Suresh from Nitte, managed to give the police the slip.

The severed skull of the cow, tail, pelt, two knives, plastic, rope, and 55-kg beef were seized by the police during the raid. The accused used to target the cows that were left for grazing in the forest area.
