Kundapur: As many as ten passengers sustained injuries after a speedy KSRTC bus rammed an under construction bridge at Trasi beach NH-66 near here at Kundapur taluk, reported in the midnight at around 2: 30 am on 20th September, Tuesday.
According to sources, the incident took place when a speedy KSRTC bus was overtaking a truck when the driver lost control and smashed into an under construction bridge. This resulted in grievous injuries to five passengers including two drivers of the same bus, while five other passengers sustained minor injuries. It is said that one passenger Viresh (28) has been shifted to Manipal hospital in serious condition, while other four have been admitted to a private hospital in Kundapur.
The injured bus drivers were identified as Gadag based resident Jeevan Sab (41) and Ishwar (44) of Badami. While other injured passengers are Basavaraj (24) of Shirahatti and Yallappa of Gadag (40).
It is said that, the bus was heading towards Mangaluru from Gadag when the incident was reported. The bus was being driven by the driver Ishwar from Gadag until Byndoor, where they halted for a refreshment and thereon driver Jeevan took over the driving seat. The lack of confidence in overtaking of the speedy bus to the lorry, led the bus to collide with a bridge after loosing it's control over the road.
The well-known social worker of 24X7 helpline service, Ibrahim MH, who is also the correspondent of SahilOnline from Kundapur immediately responded to the mishap and successfully helped the victims to shift to hospitals.
A case has been registered in Gangolli police station.
