Dubai: Four people, including three minor brothers from a single family hailing from Kerala, were killed and four others seriously injured in a tragic road accident in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. The accident occurred in the early hours of Sunday on the Abu Dhabi–Dubai highway near Ghantoot/Shahama, when their car reportedly lost control and overturned.
Those killed in the accident have been identified as Ashas (14), Ammar (12), Ayyash (5), and the family’s domestic help Bushra (48). The three children were sons of Abdul Latheef and Ruksana, natives of Malappuram district in Kerala. Bushra was also a native of Malappuram and had been working with the family as a domestic help for the past five years.
Abdul Latheef, his wife Ruksana, and their two other children — Azam and Issa — sustained serious injuries in the accident and are undergoing treatment at a hospital in Abu Dhabi. According to hospital sources, Azam’s condition is reported to be critical.
According to media reports, Abdul Latheef is a Dubai-based businessman. At the time of the accident, the family, along with their domestic help, was returning to Dubai after attending the Liwa Festival in Abu Dhabi, when the fatal mishap occurred.
The bodies of the deceased have been kept at the hospital mortuary, while family members and relatives are making arrangements for the burial to be carried out in the UAE. Social workers and local organisations are extending all possible assistance to the bereaved family.
Bushra is survived by her husband Fayaz and a son, Nizamuddin. The tragic incident has plunged relatives and acquaintances in Kerala and Gulf countries into deep grief.
