Karwar: Administrative Officer of Gokarna Mahabaleshwara Temple H Halappa has written letters to Superintendent of Police and the deputy commissioner on Thursday urging them to provide police security for smooth administration of the temple.

On October 3, the Supreme Court ordered status quo on the management of the ancient Gokarna Mahabaleshwara Temple.

The bench of Justices Kurian Joseph and A M Khanwilkar passed the order, directing maintaining of the status quo as was prevailing on September 7.

Following these orders, the temple administrative officer asked the district administration to ensure that law and order was maintained at the temple.

He asked the administration to depute security personnel at the temple for
smooth running of the temple affairs.

Responding to the letter, Deputy Commissioner S S Nakul has written a letter to Superintendent of Police Vinayak Patil asking him to take suitable steps to provide security to the temple before and after a copy of the October 3 direction of the Supreme Court reached the deputy commissioner’s office.
