Bangalore: Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR) state delegation led by Advocate Abdul Salam visited Hangal in Haveri district and met injured people who were admitted to the Haveri District Hospital after being allegedly beaten by police during violent incident which was reported on Tuesday in Hirur village during Ganesh festival.
Delegation collected the details about the incident and assured to provide legal aid. They also met the pregnant woman who blamed police for atrocities. She said that police broke into her house damaging the main door and start beating her asking for the male in the house. Delegation also visited the district prison where 14 Muslims were behind bar. Advocate Abdul Salam assured all legal help to bail them out.
APCR team later met district Suprintendent of police Mr. Parmeshwar and shared the details about the innocent youths who were taken into custody. The team also complained about the police harrassement and torture including that of the pregnant woman. They demanded to take stern action against those police personnel who were responsible for the acts. APCR also demanded the release of innocent youth who were picked up from their houses while they were sleeping in the middle of the night.
SP Mr Parmeshwar assured the delegation that he will inquire about the incidents and take necessary action. He also assured that no innocent youth will be arrested.
The delegation which was led by state executive member Advocate Abdul Salam included Mohammed Fazal and Ishaque, retired Dysp and Apcr Chithradurga district president. Haveri APCR president Azmatullah, Abdul Qadir, Dada peer, Zaheer Abbas amongst others were also present.
APCR state secretary Advocate Niyaz Ahmed informed that APCR will provide legal help to all the innocent youth who have been arrested by Haveri police. He extended the offer of legal help to even those youth who fled the village fearing arrest.
