Bhatkal: Expressing dissatisfaction over Karnataka high court's verdict on upholding the ban on hijab in government colleges, Muslims in Bhatkal voluntarily closed their shops on Wednesday to show solidarity with the hijab-clad students. They conveyed the message that there is a great deal of resentment among the Muslim community over the decision regarding hijab, and the court's verdict that hijab is not an essential part of Islam, which is wrong.

Business establishments and offices owned by Muslims were seen completely shut on Bhatkal Main Road, Marikatta, Mohammad Ali Road, Chowk Bazar, Nawayath Colony, Madina Colony, Bunder Road and other areas. As a result, silence prevailed in these areas. Since Bhatkal Town has a predominantly Muslim population, with the market being closed, the roads wore a deserted look. The movement of vehicles in these areas also remained unusual, which saw a complete success in the bandh.
