Honnavar: Shifting of liquor shop from highway to local street; enraged public hold protest

Honnavar: The protest was held against the opening of a liquor shop at a public place near Hamgi cross of Idagunji village in Honnavar taluk.

As per the notice issued by the Supreme Court, the liquor shop located at a Manki NH-66 was closed and the owner decided to fix this shop at Hamgi​ cross in Idagunji, to which the preparations had already started. As locals got this information, they came to the street in huge number protesting against the opening of a liquor shop in the locality and also blocked the road for a while. 

Zilla panchayat member Pushpa Naik rushed to the spot soon after getting the information about protes she support the protesters and took officials on task for granting permission at residentials place. The excise officials urged that it was done due to the moving of liquor shops from national highways. 

Having seen the protestors into full anger, the excise officials decided to investigate for the shifting it to another spot. After all, the locals further met with DC and submitted a memorandum stating not to allow permission for starting liquor shop in their village.
