Hot water splashed on RTI activist

Mangaluru: A gram panchayat vice president allegedly threw hot water on an RTI activist for reportedly exposing an illegality in the construction of a house under Basava Vasathi Yojane at Malebettu in Ujire.

The injured activist Balasubrahmanya Bhat is recovering in a private hospital.

According to sources, Gram Panchayat Vice President Vinutha’s family was sanctioned a house under the Basava Vasanthi scheme. Bhat had filed a complaint alleging that rules had been flouted during the construction of the house.

Based on the complaint, Belthangady Taluk Panchayat Executive Officer Kusumadhar, accompanied by a case worker and Bhat, had visited the spot for a spot inspection. During the visit, Vinutha threw hot water on Bhat.

A case was registered at the Beltangady police station.
