Karwar: Karnataka State Human Rights Commission chairperson Meera Saksena visited the district hospital here on Friday.

She inspected the outpatient and inpatient departments, blood bank and other units, besides interacting with the patients. Later, she told reporters that the number of patients were less there compared to other district hospitals in the state. “It’s a good hospital with necessary facilities and cleanliness,” she said.

The hospital has only 400 beds at present. After upgrading it as medical college, there will be 650 beds, Meera said. There is shortage of technical and paramedical staff in the hospital. The problem can be solved once paramedical course starts here, she said.

“I spoke to all the patients and they have not complained of any shortage of facilities in the hospital,” she added.
