Karwar: Karnataka State Human Rights Commission chairperson Meera Saxena paid a surprise visit to the Karwar jail, on Thursday to inspect the facilities of the jail.
She visited the women’s cells in the jail and listened to the grievances of women prisoners. She asked them share with her any kind of harassment they were being subjected to.
Later she inspected kitchen, vegetable storage room, health center, video conference room, and vegetable garden grown by the prisoners.
The chairperson, who tasted the food prepared for the prisoner’s dinner, instructed the official's concerned to improve the quality of chapathi and sambhar.
She also instructed the officials to make sure that the video conference facility is started at the jail and take the help of district administration, technical committee, to fix the technical issue at the conference hall.
She asked Zilla Panchayat CEO L Chandrashekar Nayak to provide workshop for the prisoners about preparing bakery items. Make use of the micro ovens and other instruments provided for that purpose. Deputy Commissioner SS Nakul, DySP NT Pramodhrao and others were also present.
