Indian Coast Guard security preparedness under review

Mangaluru: Indian Coast Guard Commander (Western Region), Inspector-General V.D. Chafekar visited Mangaluru on Tuesday and Wednesday.

A release from the Coast Guard here said that the visit was to review Indian Coast Guard response and preparedness for effective coastal security mechanism in the State with a key focus on operations, infrastructure development and administration.

The priorities of the Flag Officer included strengthening the coastal security approach through coordination with various Central and State agencies and to make the seas safe for the seafarers on India’s west coast.

During the visit, the Flag Officer interacted with Coast Guard officers and men and visited various assets. Mr. Chafekar took stock of the situation and showed the path for improvement.

The release said that the Flag Officer expressed satisfaction over the recent rescue services rendered by Coast Guard in the region that resulted in saving 189 lives during the current year.

Mr. Chafekar was also happy over the progress made in land acquisition, infrastructure development and effective liaison with the State administration, Police, Customs, Fisheries and other stakeholders in the State.

Coast Guard Karnataka Commander, DIG S.S. Dasila and other senior officers were present.
