Karwar: Indian Coast Guard (ICG) officials of Karwar seized three boats, which were carrying crew members from other state without documents on 27th September, Wednesday evening.

Accordingto sources, three boats from Karwar port went for fishing with many crew members and some of the members were not carrying any identity card. Therefore, the ICG seized the boats about 25 nautical miles off Karwar coast in the Arabian sea and brought back the boats to the Karwar port. The Uttara Kannada Fishermen Association members on Thursday visited Fisheries Department deputy director Doddamani and accused the ICG officials of harassing them even though fishing boats carry proper documents. They said: “If we face shortage of crew members while going for fishing, we take a couple of temporary workers from the port. Sometimes they will not be having identity cards".

They further said, “If ICG officials find any crew members without documents, let them give notice to the fishing boat owners. Suddenly stopping us from fishing causes us huge loss".
