Karwar: “Approval has been given for construction of 60 new buildings for Nadakacheri in the State and Rs 12 crore has been released for this purpose. The building construction work will soon begin”, informed District In-charge Minister R V Deshpande.
Speaking after hoisting the national flag during the Rajyotsava programme organised at the District Police Parade ground in Karwar on Thursday, Deshpande said that horticulture and agriculture crops worth Rs 16,665 crore being grown in 100 drought-hit taluks of the State have damaged. To discuss this matter, he met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on October 30 and appealed to release Rs 3,434 crore under Natural Calamity Relief Fund. Rajnath Singh had responded positively towards the demand.
Deshpande added that he had also appealed to release funds for taking up relief work in flood-affected areas of the State and he was hopeful of a positive response for this too.
Blue Flag beach:
“The Kasarkod beach in Honnavar taluk is clean and tourist-friendly. Taking this into account, ‘Environment Education Foundation’, a prestigious non-government organisation of Europe, has identified this beach as a Blue Flag beach. A proposal had been submitted to government to develop the beach at an estimated cost of Rs eight crore. On being developed, this would lead to development of tourism in Uttara Kannada district”, he said.

Meanwhile, students of various schools of Karwar presented dances and programmes depicting the glory of Karnataka. Tableaux of various government departments drew the attention of the people during the procession.
