Anjuman boys bring laurels at inter-collegiate swimming competition

Bhatkal: Students of Anjuman Institute of management and Computer Application, Bhatkal added another feather to their cap at the Karnataka University inter-collegiate swimming championship by securing many prizes in the competitions held at the HDMC swimming pool, Hubballi here on Friday.

Salman Bafaqui, BBA 1st year won silver medal in 4×100 metres freestyle and Sawood Gawai, BBA 1st Year was awarded the bronze medal in 200m Butterfly.

The team consisting of Ameer Basha, Wifaque Zabar ALi, Salman Fakkibhaw, Sawood Gawai and Mohammed Nashit Mashaikh bagged silver medal in 4×100 metres Medley relay and 4x100m freestyle relay.

Also, Mohammed Kaab from Anjuman Degree College bagged bronze medal in 50m backstroke.

More than 150 participant participated in this contest. The team was led by Coach and physical director Mohan Mesta. The Prinicpal, staff and students have congratulated the winners.

In the same competition, Sphoorti Patil of Global Business School (GBS) in Hubballi won eight gold medals by standing first in all eight competitions in women's category on the inaugural day on Thursday. Only four swimmers participated in women's section competitions.

In men's section, Vivek Suresh of JSS College (Dharwad) bagged three medals while Sanketh Dushi of Oxford College (Hubballi) and Vishal Huilgol of KHP College (Hubballi) secured two gold medals each. Venkatesh M of CSI college also bagged a gold medal. However, there was only one swimmer in men's spring board diving competition.

MLC Pradeep Shettar inaugurated the event and he assured to take steps to develop the HDMC swimming pool. HDMC Commissioner Maj Siddhalingayya Hiremath emphasized the need to develop sports culture. 

Corporator D K Chauvan, Government First Grade College (Rajnagar) Principal H G Geetha and others were present.
