Karwar: Karnataka BJP leaders headed by Kota Srinivas Poojary, opposition leader in Legislative Council, held a meeting with Goa assembly speaker and fisheries minister in Panaji on Tuesday.
Along with Poojary, Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat, Kumta MLA Dinakar Shetty, Karwar MLA Roopali Naik and other BJP leaders also attended the meeting.
Roopali Naik said Goa fisheries minister and speaker agreed to the demands of Karnataka fishermen of relaxing rules and have asked fishermen to follow the health department guidelines to supply fish to Goa. The issue will be settled within a week, she said.
Fearing over formalin, the Goa government imposed a ban on importing fish from other states and it was affected on Karnataka fishing community. The fishermen of Uttara Kannada staged a protest and stopped Goa trucks which were car rying fish
