New Delhi/Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Thursday said he had convened an all-party meeting at his official residence, 'Krishna', in Bengaluru on August 2 to discuss the Cauvery water-sharing issue.

Karnataka suffered a setback after the Cauvery Water Management Authority rejected the state's appeal and upheld the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee's recommendation directing it to release 3,500 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu daily for the next 15 days.

Speaking to reporters in New Delhi, Shivakumar said, "An all-party meeting on the Cauvery water issue has been convened on Sunday (August 2) at my residence, 'Krishna'."

Responding to queries from reporters at Karnataka Bhavan, he said former chief ministers, Members of Parliament and MLAs from the Cauvery basin region had been invited.

"We have discussed the issue with Union Ministers Pralhad Joshi and V Somanna, as well as MPs Jagadish Shettar and Basavaraj Bommai. They are making every effort for the welfare of the state," Shivakumar said.

Asked about Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay being advised to approach the Union government instead of Karnataka, he said, "I will not comment on that matter."

"We have no interest in fighting with each other. There is a law of the land. We must respect one another. The entire country must work together," Shivakumar said.

Responding to BJP leaders' criticism over the cabinet expansion, Shivakumar took an apparent swipe at former Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa and his son, BJP state president B Y Vijayendra, recalling that the former had run the administration without a cabinet and asking whether the father-son duo had not enjoyed power.

Yediyurappa functioned as a one-man cabinet for nearly four weeks after taking oath as Karnataka CM on July 26, 2019, running the state administration without any ministers.

During this period, he toured several flood-hit regions and personally oversaw relief operations.
