Bengaluru: The High Court on Wednesday stayed the state government's circular to ban the registration of new Omni vans as emergency response service ambulances in the state.
The state transport department had decided to ban such registrations based on the recommendations of the Health and Family Welfare and Ayush Services, Technical Standing Committee Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and Department of Road Transport and Highways.
The decision to ban registration cites that Maruti Omni vans are not safe as ambulances as they frequently meet accidents and also that there are no functional requirements for road ambulances in it.
Maruti Suzuki has approached the HC challenging the state government's move to stop the registration.
