Procession marks Kannada Rajyotsava celebration in Karwar

Karwar: Adequate measures have been taken to develop infrastructure in the district, which in turn will provide employment opportunities, said District Minister R V Deshpande at a Karnataka Rajoytsava event.

Speaking after inaugurating the event on Tuesday, the minister said that the long-pending dream of Hubballi-Ankola railway line has received a green signal and more development can be expected in the region.

Apart from a railway line, port development projects have been taken under public and private partnership. Ports including Tadadi, Karwar, Honnavar, and Mavinkurve will help develop industries and create more jobs, Deshpande added.

“To solve the unemployment problem, we have organised Karwar Udyogamela on November 12 and 13 in the city. About 13,000 job aspirants have registered their names and 170 companies are expected to participate in the meal,’’ he said Earlier, Uttara Kannada Deputy Commissioner S S Nakul inaugurated a procession to mark Kannada Rajyotsava celebration here.

Tableaus of Tourism, Forest, Backward Class Welfare, Women and Child development Departments were the centres of attraction in the procession.

Meanwhile, pro-Kannada organisations celebrated Rajyotsava by distributing sweets at Karnataka-Goa border. Rajyotsava was celebrated with great enthusiasm in Sirsi, Ankola, Kumta, Bhatkal, and other towns in the district. Later Deshpande told reporters that four taluks of the district have been announced drought affected and soon the central team will visit these taluks to take stock of the situation. “Mundgod, Haliyal, Yellapur and Siddapur taluks have been declared drought affected taluks in the district. Within a couple of days, a central team will visit the state to review the drought situation,” he added.
