Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer V Anbukkumar on Wednesday said that names of more than 2.4 lakh voters have been moved out of the ASDDO category following verification during the ongoing SIR of the electoral roll.
He said the house-to-house enumeration, which began on June 30, has been extended by the Election Commission of India until August 17.
Addressing a press conference here, CEO Anbukkumar said that 4,45,57,010 voters, or 80.38 per cent of the 5.54 crore voters on the electoral roll frozen on June 16, have returned their enumeration forms and their names will be available in the draft electoral roll.
The remaining 1,08,75,304 voters (19.62 per cent) have been identified under ASDDO (Absent, Permanently Shifted, Dead, Duplicate or Other) category, he said.
"This means 80.38 per cent of voters will have their names in the draft roll, while 19.62 per cent will not," he said.
The ASDDO breakup, according to the CEO, is: 15,48,757 absent voters, 65,73,976 permanently shifted voters, 16,36,673 voters marked dead, 7,01,412 voters already enrolled elsewhere and 4,14,486 under the "Others" category, mostly those who refused to sign.
He said the ASDDO list was published on August 3 and shared with recognised political parties, urging voters and party representatives to verify the entries and report any errors.
"Around 2,41,082 voters have benefited from this exercise," he said, adding that the ASDDO list had come down from around 111.16 lakh names on August 5 to approximately 1,08.75 lakh currently.
He said 80,492 voters who had earlier refused to sign their enumeration forms have since signed and returned them, resulting in their movement to other categories.
The next update of the ASDDO list will be made on August 15 evening, while the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll process will conclude on August 17, he said.
According to him, as part of the rationalisation of polling stations, Karnataka will add 1,848 polling stations in addition to the existing 59,050. The Election Commission has directed that no polling station should have more than 1,200 voters.
Clarifying the 'absent' and 'permanently shifted' categories, Anbukkumar said the classification only indicates that the voter was not residing at the address mentioned in the electoral roll as of June 16.
Eligible voters who have shifted and are not enrolled elsewhere can apply for enrolment from their new address using Form 6, he said.
Since the SIR of electoral roll process began, the state has received 4,08,798 Form 6 applications, 3,592 Form 6A applications, 31,415 Form 7 applications and 8,50,667 Form 8 applications, taking a total of 12,94,472 applications, he said.
Anbukkumar said the qualifying date under the SIR is October 1, 2026, and those turning 18 on that date can apply using Form 6 along with the required declaration.
On mapping, he said Karnataka's overall mapping stands at around 92 per cent, while rural mapping is approximately 94.8 per cent. The number of no-mapping cases has fallen from around 34 lakh last week to approximately 32 lakh.
The CEO said voters still have time until August 17 to report discrepancies, following which the BLO and Electoral Registration Officer can take necessary action based on the voter's eligibility and information.
