Karwar: “Kannada is our mother language and it is related to us by blood. Hindi is needed for the unity and integrity of the country. In addition to these languages, English is a global language needed to excel across the world. So, children have to learn all the three languages to have a bright future”, said Primary & Secondary Education Minister N Mahesh.
Speaking after inaugurating a State-level conference of Hindi teachers at Shejwad near Karwar on Tuesday, he said that all the communication of the Central government was either in Hindi or English. In a way, Hindi informally has an upper hand in the Union government. Those who have a hold on Hindi can put forth their point effectively in the parliament. Though language was just a medium to put across various feelings and opinions, the communication is more successful when it is understood by a large number of people. Therefore, children must be taught Hindi.
He assured that the State-level conference of Hindi teachers will be organised in Chamarajnagar under his guidance next year.
Pro-tem Chairman of the Council Basavaraj Horatti said that many parliamentarians from the State are unable to communicate effectively in the parliament as they do not know both Hindi and English. Prime Minister Narendra Modi speaks Hindi nicely and so, he is able to put across his thoughts clearly. Hindi was a beautiful language.
MLC S V Sankanur said that our education system had not understood the importance of Hindi language properly. It was not giving importance to learning languages. It was the responsibility of teachers to ensure that the children develop the skills of communication.
State High School Hindi Language Teachers’ Association President A Rajagopalachar submitted a memorandum to the minister listing various demands of Hindi teachers. On the occasion, teachers who have received awards at taluk, district and State levels were felicitated.
