Karwar: “The rule, making BEd compulsory for primary and high school Hindi teachers, has been dropped. So now onwards, candidates who have degrees from Hindi Prachar Sabha can teach Hindi in schools without any hindrance”, said Primary & Secondary Education Minister N Mahesh.

Speaking after inaugurating the State-level conference of Hindi teachers organised at Shejwad near Karwar on Tuesday, Mahesh said that during the recruitment of Hindi teachers 2002, BEd was not made mandatory. But the Education Department made it mandatory in 2016. This affected the salary and prospects of hundreds of teachers. Realising the quantum of the issue, the old rule has been reinstated. He said that he had signed the papers in this regard on Monday.

Legislative Council Pro-tem Chairman Basavaraj Horatti said that even one Hindi teacher in the school was considered as excess and this was foolishness. There were many people in the Education Department who have no knowledge to understand this issue. In case, they are not mended, they will destroy the entire department. “I have warned the minister about this”, he said.
