Karwar: DC urges enrolment of unorganised workers in pension scheme

Karwar: Uttara Kannada Deputy Commissioner K. Lakshmi Priya has directed officials to ensure that unorganised sector workers are enrolled under the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maandhan pension scheme after providing them with complete information about the scheme.

She was speaking while presiding over the district-level monitoring committee meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Saturday.

The DC said workers in the unorganised sector should be identified and brought under the scheme, and awareness should be created among them. She stressed that government schemes can succeed only when beneficiaries are fully informed and urged officials to intensify outreach efforts.

She also instructed officials to ensure maximum enrolment during the special registration drive till March 15, covering agricultural labourers, anganwadi workers and helpers, Akshara Dasoha cooking assistants, street vendors, MGNREGA workers, domestic workers, washermen and handloom workers, among others.

Labour Officer Lalita Satenahalli said unorganised workers aged between 18 and 40 years can register at CSC centres by submitting copies of their Aadhaar card and bank account details.

Labour Officer Veena Masti, Municipal Commissioner Jagadish Huligajji, Deputy Director of Fisheries Prateek Shetty, representatives of various labour organisations and others were present.
