Karwar: Uttara Kannada Deputy Commissioner (DC) K. Lakshmi Priya directed officials to mandatorily conduct Vigilance and Monitoring Committee meetings at all sub-division levels within the stipulated period to address issues faced by Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities.
Presiding over the district-level committee meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s office here on Wednesday, she instructed officials to ensure immediate compensation to victims in atrocity cases. Expressing displeasure over delays in providing compassionate jobs to families of deceased victims due to lack of documents, she directed Social Welfare Department officials to personally intervene and resolve such cases within one month.
Committee members raised several concerns, including issuing identity cards to committee members, preventing false atrocity cases, curbing illegal sand mining, utilization of the 2% GP grant for quality sports equipment, providing loans under PM Svanidhi to nomadic communities, allotting vending space to Hakki Pikki community members during Sirsi Jatre, action against illegal purchase of Dalit land, and allotment of houses to women victims under shelter schemes.
Senior district officials, social welfare authorities, committee members and department representatives attended the meeting.
