Karwar: “Public is like police without uniforms. To have better relation with the public and to make use of it to detect and check crimes, improvised for police department”, stated Superintendent of Police Vinayak Patil.

Speaking at a meeting of the citizen members of the improvised beat system, at Zilla Rangamandir in Karwar on 16th July, Sunday, he said that there is shortage of policemen in the district.

Therefore, the police department finds it tough to provide security to all. Earlier, there was a beat system for three to four villages. Therefore, it was not possible to gather information and respond to the people’s problem quickly. But under the improvised beat system, every village will be looked after by one policemen. That policeman will be given the responsibility of ensuring that no untowards incidents take place in that particular village.

The SP said that the police Department is meant for the society, and therefore people must have trust and confidence on the force of police. If people come across some illegal activities or untoward incidents, they must immediately bring it to the notice of the beat incharge. He advised policemen to manage their beat duty properly.

Journalist Gangadhar Hiregutti said that people must co-operate with police to check crimes and maintain peaceful atmosphere. It is not possible for police alone to maintain calm without the help of the villagers. Fishermen leader Ganapathi Mangre, social worker AnuKals also spoke on the occasion. Karwar Department Authority President Sandeep Talekar, GT Naik and others were present.
