Karwar: A State-wide Rata Roko on September 2 has been planned urging fulfilment of the demands of poor farmers and agriculture labourers informed Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha Zilla Samithi Secretary Shantaram Nayak.
“Farmers are constantly struggling since decades for fulfilment of various demands. But they are still suffering due to the unscientific policies of the government. Many poor farmers are leading their lives by cultivating small pieces of land which were encroached long back. But their applications to legalise their hands are not being processed due to legal hurdles”, he said.
On the other hand, agriculture sector is facing trouble. Farmers are not getting good yield and are unable to repay their loans. This is triggering them towards suicides, he said.
The main demands that will be placed before the government on September 2 are legalising forest encroached land, fixing support price for coconut and arecanut, checking price rise of essential commodities, checking irregularities in public distribution system etc.
