Karwar: MLA Satish Sail on Tuesday has threatened to block the road leading to Nuclear Power Corporation Limited (NPCL) plant at Kaiga if the demands of the agitators are not met at Wednesday’s meeting.

Addressing the agitators at Kaiga Township on Tuesday, they would block the road leading to NPCL plant in case the officials take a decision against the interest of the agitating contract workers, from Thursday, he said.

The officials are discriminating against the contract workers, he alleged.

The decision came after the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India has advised not to give special allowance to the contract workers as their daily wage has exceeded the amount fixed under the Central and state governments daily wage policy.

Thousands of contract workers have been staging an agitation for the past five days against the NPCL’s decision to cancel their 25 % special and 6 % travel allowances, even though the officials have decided to continue the special and travel allowances of the employees working in the power plant and stopped the same of those working in the township. This is unfair and anti-labour decision which should be immediately withdrawn, he said.

Chandrashekar Bandekar, agitators’ leader said the officials should give equal salary and facilities to all the employees.
