New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has accused Arvind Kejriwal, the jailed Delhi Chief Minister, of intentionally consuming a diet high in sugar, such as mangoes, sweets, and sugary tea, to artificially elevate his blood sugar levels as a pretext for seeking bail. In response, Kejriwal’s counsel denied the allegations, asserting that Kejriwal only consumes foods prescribed by his doctors. Advocate Vivek Jain, representing Kejriwal, criticized the ED's claims as an attempt to halt the provision of home-cooked meals to the CM.

“The person who is claiming to have high diabetes is consuming mangoes, sweets regularly, and adding sugar to his tea. This is all fabricated to create grounds for bail,” stated Special Public Prosecutor Zoheb Hossain.

This accusation surfaced during a court session on Thursday, where Kejriwal’s application to continuously monitor his sugar levels and consult his regular doctor was discussed. Kejriwal argued that his fluctuating blood sugar necessitated regular medical consultation. The court has requested a medical report from the jail authorities on Kejriwal's diet and deferred the matter to the following day.

Kejriwal, detained in Tihar Jail over a money laundering case linked to the defunct excise policy, remains in office despite calls from the BJP for his resignation.

Additionally, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Delhi High Court, seeking a directive for the Director General of Prisons to enable Kejriwal to govern efficiently by allowing him to meet with assembly members and cabinet ministers via video conferencing.
