Hyderabad: Accusing the NDA government of using the EC to win elections, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi secure the resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar.

Reddy, who visited Barakhamba road police station in Delhi where Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was taken following his detention over his sit-in protest demanding resignation of Gyanesh Kumar, alleged that the CEC is the "instrument" to win the polls.

Claiming that Union Home Minister Amit Shah is behind the detention of opposition leaders and the heavy security deployment in Delhi in view of protests, he alleged that Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge and other detainees were "thrown into vehicles" like terrorists.

"The people of the country would not condone Modi ji for this. Modi ji has not formed government for this," he told reporters.

Claiming that PM Modi and Gyanesh Kumar were trying to "strip the poor" of their voting rights by using the SIR, he said the Congress and INDIA bloc are trying to correct the situation.

"I demand Modi ji and Amit Shah ji to take the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar immediately. Otherwise, you will have to resign," he said.

He likened the agitation against SIR to the 'Simon Go Back' stir during the freedom movement. Revanth Reddy also said the agitation under Rahul Gandhi's leadership is not going to stop and that Gen Z would also join the stir.
