Kumta: The Muslim community in Kumta will observe a day-long bandh on March 17 extending their support to the Karnataka bandh called by Ameer-e-Shariat to protest against the high court ruling upholding the state government's order prohibiting students from wearing religious attires, including hijab, in educational institutes.
On Wednesday, Maulana Sageer Ahmad Khan Rashadi, the Ameer-e-Shariat of Karnataka, addressing the Muslim community of the state has given a call for Karnataka bandh expressing disappointment over high court's verdict on Hijab row.
Maulana requested all the Muslims to listen to his order attentively and implement it strictly. "On March 17, there will be a complete bandh across Karnataka,” Maulana Rashidi said in a video message. He also described the high court order as ‘sad.’
Following Ameer-e-Shariat's call, Jamaatul Muslimeen Kumta extended its support for bandh and has appealed the Muslim business holders to keep their shops and offices closed on Thursday expressing dissatisfaction over the high court's verdict.
