Sullia: A 52-year-old Congress leader who was hacked to death by unidentified miscreants in broad daylight in Sullia on 25th September is suspected to have a lead deal behind his murder.
According to received information, the Congress leader had struck some land deal with a person from Mangaluru relating to a land at Bellare. A dispute had arisen between them on this issue. It is suspected that the disputes over the right of land have ended up in murder of Ismail by the opposition.
There is a notion the person hired some locals to settle against Ismail who murdered him along with his gang in a pre-planned game. Police are now concentrating on this theory and their investigation is moving on this direction, it is learnt.
The investigating team is said to have gained access to some important information in the case. Police have been trying to nab the culprits.
Earlier the police had suspected that the recent attack could have been a sequel to a previous attack which was carried out two years ago on Ismail and his wife Waheeda Ismail, who was the president of Bellare Grama Panchayat.
