Mangaluru: A tanker transporting liquefied petroleum gas overturned at Maroli on the Nanthoor-Padil Bypass Road in the city on Saturday afternoon, affecting traffic movement. Immediately, the gas in the tanker started to leak. Police who rushed to the spot diverted the Bengaluru and Mysuru-bound traffic via Pumpwell Junction.
Personnel from the Indane Gas Company to which the tanker belongs were working to transfer the gas to an empty tanker. “This will go on till around midnight. Till then the traffic will be diverted,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime and Traffic) Uma Prashant. An emergency rescue vehicle of an oil company is also at the spot.
The tanker was heading from Mangaluru towards Bantwal. Its driver lost control while negotiating a curve. Passerby informed police, who immediately rushed to the spot with fire tenders.
