Udupi: In a shocking incident, an elderly man who was in the construction business and had worked in a merchant ship committed suicide in his car by stabbing himself with a knife, near Vidyarathna Road in Manipal in Udupi district on Sunday late night.

According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Olivera Louis, aged 68.

He was residing with his wife and two daughters in Manipal for the last few years.

In the suicide note, he allegedly said that nobody is responsible for his death and the depression he suffered has led him to take the extreme step to end his life.

In fact, the police had to break open the windshield of the car to retrieve the body.

A case is registered at Manipal police station. Udupi Superintendent P Laxman Nimbargi visited the spot.
