Mangalore: Six-year-old boy injured in stray dog attack in Bajpe

Mangaluru: A six-year-old boy sustained serious injuries after being attacked by a stray dog in Bajpe, a rural area of Mangaluru. The incident occurred in Souharda Nagar, which comes under the jurisdiction of the Kandavara Gram Panchayat.

The injured boy has been identified as Ahil, the son of Mohammad Azhar, a resident of Souharda Nagar. According to sources, the incident took place around 7:30 a.m. when Ahil was returning home from the madrasa. A stray dog suddenly attacked him, biting his cheek and hand, leaving him badly injured.

The attack occurred on the road in front of his house. Hearing the boy’s screams, his mother rushed out and managed to rescue him from the dog. He was immediately taken to the Bajpe Government Hospital, and later shifted to Manipal Hospital for advanced treatment.

Speaking to the media, the boy’s uncle, Mohammad Muzammil, said that residents have been repeatedly complaining to the Kandavara Gram Panchayat about the growing menace of stray dogs in the area for the past three years, but no action has been taken so far. “Whenever we raise the issue, officials cite court orders that prohibit the killing of stray dogs,” he added with frustration.
